PRE-SCHOOL and CULTURAL CENTER

Background:
This project started with a strong drive and passion to create something meaningful in the growing neighbourhood Txumene in Matola, a suburb of the Mozambican capital Maputo.
The vision of contributing to children's early stage in life and creating new opportunities and jobs for the people and especially the women of the neighbourhood grew stronger and took form in a project plan. On an empty building plot the construction started and the birth of the pre-school Mãe Madalena.
Abous us:
Nando Valoi's Dance is in the process of building a pre-school in the large suburb Matola, one hour from the Mozambican capital Maputo. A project aiming to contribute to the Mozambican society by creating a stable and secure start in life for the children of the neighbourhood. The project is looking at, and is inspired by Swedish pre-schools aiming to create a fusion of the Mozambican and Swedish methodologies, mixing the best from both worlds. In the evening time, the pre-school will function as a cultural center for the youth and adults of Matola, offering educational and cultural activities. Both music and dance will be very present in both day time and evening activities and the focus on gender equality should always be present in Mãe Madalena
The pre-school is aiming to play an important role in the children's lives and in the phase of their intellectual and psychosocial development. It will be a safe platform for children in the early stage of their life where they can grow, learn and develop. Pre-school Mãe Madalena wants to bring a smile on the face of the Mozambican children with the motto; "Let's transform lives together"
The cultural center's objective is to organize activities, courses and study circles contributing to the personal growth and creativity, competence increase and growing skills of the young adults and adults in Matola.
What we are about:
• Develop artistic workshops that consolidate literacy and foster the development of self-confidence, self-esteem, the spirit of colaboration;
• Cooperation and personal growth through music, dance, visual arts etc;
• Building more lively futures in the lives of the children and their caregivers;
• Fomenting a society of gender equality
PROGRESS OF THE CONTRUCTION OF MAE MADALENA
Some of the latest addition to the construction, the entrance: behind awaits what is to become a safe playground for children and an inspiring place for the people of Matola
First steps:
The first class room is taking shape in the beginning of 2017 and the wall around the playground and pre-school is ready. This wall is today painted with playful and colorful images done by a local painter.
The contsruction of the two first class rooms of the pre-school where children will have the opportunity to grow and develop in the early stage of their lives
4 class rooms:
In the first stage of the pre-school, Mae Madalena will have 4 class rooms for the day time and evening activities. We are also constructing bathrooms and a room for the teachers to rest and prepare for their classes.
The latest addition to the construction is a space for physical activities.
